Expanding Wireless Coverage: DAWN x Flume
DAWN has partnered with Flume, a telecommunications company that offers gigabit home broadband to NYC, LA, Hartford and other cities in the United States. The partnership is an example of how open wireless infrastructure is scaling in real-world deployments.
Through the collaboration, DAWN is helping unlock connectivity across nearly one million households across Manhattan and the Bronx, with coverage now reaching over 90% of households in the Bronx alone.
The partnership highlights how existing broadband providers can integrate into DAWN's open access network model to expand their coverage and accelerate infrastructure deployment.
Bringing Open Access to Real-World Infrastructure
Flume Internet has built a strong presence delivering high-speed broadband connectivity across dense urban environments. By working alongside DAWN, Flume's infrastructure can now participate in a broader open connectivity ecosystem.
Traditional telecom networks often operate in closed environments, making coverage difficult to discover and slowing network expansion. DAWN introduces an alternative model, transforming proven fixed wireless infrastructure into open, subscription-based connectivity that is visible and accessible to users.
By integrating with DAWN:
- Broadband coverage is extended
- Coverage becomes discoverable through the DAWN Explorer
- Operators gain tools to directly connect with users
- Users gain greater transparency and network choice
Flume's deployment footprint demonstrates how quickly open access connectivity can scale when established infrastructure providers participate in the network.
How the Partnership Expands Connectivity
The process is straightforward:
- Providers deploy or integrate existing wireless infrastructure
- Coverage becomes visible through the DAWN Explorer
- Users can discover and subscribe to available networks
- Providers earn rewards
This structure aligns incentives across infrastructure providers, deployers, and end users, helping connectivity scale more efficiently across urban and underserved regions alike.
Infrastructure That Powers Expansion
One example of this deployment model can be seen in Flume's New York City infrastructure, where Tarana antennas are being used to deliver high-capacity wireless broadband across large portions of the region.
Tarana builds advanced fixed wireless radios capable of delivering fiber-like, multi gigabit performance using outdoor wireless links. These systems help operators extend reliable broadband in environments where traditional fiber deployment can be expensive or difficult to scale.
Momentum Continuing Into 2026
The current New York City deployments represent only the beginning of this partnership. Additional network expansion is already planned throughout Q1 and Q2 as DAWN and Flume continue increasing coverage and onboarding infrastructure.
Each new deployment strengthens the open wireless marketplace, bringing connectivity closer to a future where broadband infrastructure is financeable, scalable, and accessible at a global level.
